Ericka Nicole Malone has always been a woman who has preferred to meet challenges head-on. As early as her college days, while many students made ends meet by working at fast-food chains, Ericka financed her undergraduate education by writing and producing theatrical plays. Her genius for success as a playwright became undeniably apparent as hundreds of students purchased tickets to her performances. By the time she left Western Kentucky University, she was already a seasoned Actress, Writer, Director and Producer.

Not surprisingly, Malone has never acknowledged limits and has always aspired to do great things. “One of the things I observed was an industry full of directors and writers that were men, but lacking women operating in those same roles," Malone recalls. "I guess that kind of compelled me to want to represent women in that same capacity in Urban Theatre. In comparison to a period or historic play, Urban Theatre is all about modern life and everyday people, and what better way for the story to be told than from a woman’s perspective?”

"(Urban Theatre) is very current, very alive, and almost like a snapshot of what one sees going on in peoples' daily life," Malone says. "What's most challenging is making sure that I'm being authentic, not just writing with my biased opinion of what ‘Ericka’ thinks, but really talking and listening to people and then representing, on stage, what people want."

Ericka Nicole Malone is a ‘quadruple-threat’; as an actress, writer, director and producer, she is now poised to make her mark in, what up to this point, has been a man’s territory. The buzz of the emergence of this black female voice is beginning to be heard around the country. Ericka Nicole Malone has written, directed and produced more than nine stage plays including, “I Feel Like Praising Him” and “You Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down.”

Her hilarious writing style and ability to connect with her audience makes Ericka an unmistakable figure in Urban Theatre. Ericka’s uncanny ability to write plays that touch both men and women in the crowd through tears and laughter is only second to her own unique talent on stage. Her depth of substance and vintage humor brings you back to the days when comedy was truly funny and pierced your soul.
Ericka Nicole Malone’s tenth stage play, “In Love With Tyrone”, is one of her finest efforts yet and will distinguish her as this decade’s playwright to watch. “In Love With Tyrone” is set for National Tour this Fall.
